Docomomo.bc DOCOMOMO International (Society for the DOcumentation and COnservation of buildings, sites and neighbourhoods of the MOdern MOvement) was established in the Netherlands in 1988 and currently has more than 40 active working parties worldwide. It publishes a periodical, organizes conferences and workshops, and actively promotes the preservation of structures and landscapes from the modern era (generally 1920's to present). Docomomo.bc was officially recognized as one of 3 Canadian working parties (along with Ontario and Quebec) in 1997. Although we are a relatively new organization, many of our members are well recognized and long time participants in heritage awareness and architectural preservation efforts in British Columbia, and have been involved in Docomomo for many years. Docomomo.bc membership includes a wide range of architects, planners, historians, professors, artists, architectural critics, heritage consultants, and heritage enthusiasts. We work closely with other historical and architectural groups, as well as local and provincial government officials and university students and professors. Our members are noted for enthusiastically working towards raising awareness and the preservation of many of British Columbia's most important and widely recognized buildings, sites and landscapes - sites which truly are tomorrow's heritage and which will be increasingly recognized as central to the cultural heritage and development patterns of the province. |
